PostgreSQL is an advanced object-relational database management system that supports an extended subset of the SQL standard, including transactions, foreign keys, subqueries, triggers, user-defined types and functions. This distribution also contains several language bindings, including C, C++, Perl, Python, and Tcl, as well as drivers for JDBC and ODBC. See the file INSTALL for instructions on how to build and install PostgreSQL. That file also lists supported operating systems and hardware platforms and contains information regarding any other software packages that are required to build or run the PostgreSQL system. GUC support. It's now possible to set datestyle, timezone, and client_encoding from postgresql.conf and per-database or per-user settings. Also, implement rollback of SET commands that occur in a transaction that later fails. Create a SET LOCAL var = value syntax that sets the variable only for the duration of the current transaction. All per previous discussions in pghackers.
